Luke Moore is an in-demand pianist and keyboard player based near Cardiff. He’s performed in resident bands on major cruise liners such as P&O Britannia and backed west end artists such Rietta Austin and Portia Emare.
He was born into a creative family and raised in Minehead on the edge of Exmoor National Park. He began his musical journey aged four when he started piano lessons. He has always been passionate about music and his early influences were 80s/90s Pop, Rock and Jazz.
He was a regular performer in concerts and travelled to France with his school’s Jazz Band. He also participated in musical theatre productions, both as a pianist in the pit and as a singer/actor onstage. Whilst in sixth-form, he performed locally in a jazz trio, completed an organ scholarship, and passed his Grade 8 Piano. His school didn’t offer an A-Level Music class, so he completed the qualification in one year with a private tutor.
He studied Music at King’s College, London and received piano lessons at the Royal Academy of Music. During his studies, he acquired a thorough education in musical analysis, history, composition and performance. His classical influences are Sergei Prokofiev, Michael Tippett and many more. During his twenties, Luke worked as Musical Director and Arranger for musical theatre productions. He’s an excellent sight-reader and has performed in a variety of shows, some of which he arranged himself.
Improvisation is the cornerstone of Luke’s style and approach to making music. Before his reading skills began to develop, he was a natural improvisor with a good ear and a boundless creative spirit. During his formative years, he gained the confidence to trust his instincts and is comfortable playing outside of the box. Inspired by Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert, he frequently improvised live in front of audiences. Luke’s current musical influences are Bruce Hornby, Dave Grusin and many more.
Luke is keen to get involved in any creative projects and would be happy to hear from anyone wishing to work with him. He is also available to work in musical theatre and would love to one day work with an emerging or established artist.
